What is Second Life?

Second Life is an online virtual world, launched in 2003, where users, known as residents, can create avatars and interact with each other in a simulated environment. Unlike traditional games, Second Life does not have set objectives or gameplay. Instead, it offers a platform for social interaction, creativity, and commerce, all within a 3D virtual space. Residents can customize their avatars, build virtual homes and businesses, attend events, and participate in a virtual economy using the in-world currency, Linden Dollars. The platform emphasizes user-generated content, allowing users to shape the world with their own creations and experiences. Second Life allows for a wide range of activities, from socializing with friends to attending live music performances, exploring new places, or engaging in role-playing. It represents a unique digital world where people from all over the globe can come together to share in a virtual reality. Second Life is accessed through a downloadable client that lets users navigate and participate in this alternate reality.
